/ Rollicking India leave Bangladesh rattled after Day 4

Bangladesh reached the end of the fourth day two down for 26 in their second innings, trailing India by 26 runs after a thrilling day where hosts India took the match by the scruff of the neck and set up an exciting final day of the second Test at the Green Park Stadium.
Opener Zakir Hasan and nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud were the ones to depart on the day, both falling to Ravichandran Ashwin, with the former getting trapped LBW for seven and the latter getting bowled for four. 
Opener Shadman Islam and first innings centurion Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on seven and 0 at stumps.
Shadman was lucky to survive as he got put down on three by KL Rahul at slip of the bowling of Akash Deep.
Earlier, India came out all guns blazing in their first innings after bowling out Bangladesh for 233. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma brought up the team 50 in just three overs, the quickest ever in Test history.
The hosts didn’t just stop there as they went on to break the world records for the fastest 100, 150, 200 and 250 respectively.
Jaiswal starred with a blazing 72 off 51 balls and KL Rahul hit an equally destructive 68 off 43 balls while the rest of the Indian batters also chipped in with brief but impactful knocks, all playing with the same positive attitude.
Shakib Al Hasan and Mehedi Hasan Miraz claimed four wickets each but that did little to curb the Indian onslaught. 
India scored at a rollicking rate of 8.22 runs per over and declared their innings on 285-9 in just 34.4 overs, with a lead of 59 runs, in a bid to test the Bangladesh batters in the final 30 minutes of the day.
The bid worked in India’s favour as they made a couple of inroads and will now head into the final day as the favourites.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rollicking 72 off 51 balls, KL Rahul hit an equally destructive 68 off 43 balls while the other batters also chipped in with equally brisk knocks, in an innings where India broke the world record for the fastest team 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250.
The Bangladesh bowlers were taken to the cleaners, conceding 8.22 runs per over in the innings. Spinners Mehedi Hasan Miraz ad Shakib Al Hasan took four wickets each, but it did little to stem India’s onslaught.
With this exhilarating innings, India have breathed life into a contest which was seemingly heading for a draw after Day2 and 3 got washed away, and now they have set up a testing half-an-hour period for Bangladesh batters today and a thrilling finish tomorrow.
 
Shakib Al Hasan removed Virat Kohli, his third wicket of the day, but it had no effect on India’s ruthless batting onslaught as after breaking the records for the fastest team 50, 100 and 150, India have also broken the record for the quickest 200 and 250 in Tests and have reached 264-5 in just 31 overs and are now leading Bangladesh by 31 runs in the final session on Day 4 of the second Test at the Green Park Stadium today.
Shakib went through the defences of Kohli, who attempted a sweep but missed the ball completely, to dismiss the batter for 47 off 25 balls.
Kohli’s knock and KL Rahul’s quickfire half-century, which he completed in just 33 balls, enabled India to first reach 200 in just 24.2 overs, besting, Australia’s record of 28.1 overs against Pakistan in Sydney in 2017, and then reach 250 in 30.1 overs, overtaking England’s record of 34 overs also against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2022.
 
Shakib Al Hasan struck twice in consecutive overs as India continued rollicking along in their first innings, reaching 159-4 in just 19.2 overs, trailing Bangladesh by 74 runs in the final session on Day 4 of the second Test at the Green Park Stadium today.
First, Shubman Gill, after making 39 off 36 balls, holed out to Hasan Mahmud at long off. In the next over, Rishabh Pant departed for nine off 11 balls, getting caught by the same fielder at long on.
In between the two overs, Bangladesh missed a golden opportunity to dismiss Virat Kohli, when Khaled Ahmed made a mess of a simple run out chance at the striker’s end, missing the stumps from just a couple of paces away when he had enough time to just knock the bails overs with his hands with Kohli stranded at middle of the pitch.
The fall of wickets has not affected India’s scoring rate a lot as after scoring the quickest team 50 and 100, they have now broken the world record for the quickest 150, reaching the mark in just 18.2 overs, besting their own record of 21.1 overs which they made against the West Indies in Port of Spain in 2023.
Kohli, not out on 13, has been joined by KL Rahul. India trail Bangladesh by another 61 runs.
 
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blistering knock helped India race to 138-2 in just 16 overs in the post-lunch session, as they head into Tea trailing Bangladesh by just 95 runs in the first innings on Day 4 of the second Test at the Green Park Stadium today.
Jaiswal smashed a rollicking 72 off just 51 balls, an innings that had 12 fours and two sixes, before falling late in the session. His incredible knock coupled with a quickfire 23 off 11 balls from captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 37 off 30 balls has enabled India to post both the quickest ever team 50 and 100 in Test history.
Bangladeshi bowler had no respite throughout the session, as they were dumbstruck by India’s batting onslaught, leaking runs at a startling rate of 8.62 runs per over.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz dismissed Rohit and Hasan Mahmud bowled out Jaiswal but other than that Bangladesh had no moments of respite in the session.
Earlier, Bangladesh lost their final four wickets for just 28 runs after Lunch to get bundled out for 233. Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on 107.
 
 
Mehedi Hasan Miraz broke the blazing opening stand from India by bowling out skipper Rohit Sharma as India have raced to 55-1 in just 3.5 overs in their first innings reply in the second session on Day 4 of the second Test at the Green Park Stadium today.
Rohit hit one four and three sixes for his 23 off 11 balls while his partner Yashasvi Jaiswal is unbeaten on 30 off just 13 ball with six fours and a six as the opening stand brought up 50 runs in just three overs, the fastest-ever 50-run opening stand in Test history.
Bangladesh’s opening bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed were taken apart, with Hasan 34 in two overs and Khaled leaking 16 before both were taken off the attack.
Miraz first got Rohit trapped LBW, a decision that got overturned after a review, but in the very next delivery, he snuck the ball inside bat and pad and into the stumps.
Earlier in the session, Bangladesh got bundled out for 233 in their first innings.
 
India wrapped up Bangladesh’s first innings soon after Lunch as the Tigers got bundled out for 233, losing their remaining four wickets for just 28 runs in the second session on Day 4 of the second Test at the Green Park Stadium today.
Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on a splendid 107 as Bangladesh lost their last four wickets in just 8.2 overs in the second session.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah claimed three wickets while Mohammad Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin and Akash Deep took two wickets each.
Soon after Lunch, Bumrah struck in consecutive overs, getting Mehedi Hasan Miraz caught at slip for 20 and rattling Taijul Islam’s off stump for five.
Siraj then brought Bangladesh closer to the end by getting Hasan Mahmud trapped LBW for one and then Ravindra Jadeja hit the final nail in the coffin by getting Khaled Ahmed caught and bowled, claiming his 300th wicket in Tests.
Earlier, Bangladesh resumed their first innings on 107-3 after Day 2 and 3 saw no play due to rain and a wet outfield.
Mominul brought up his 13th Test ton as Bangladesh went into Lunch on 205-6.
With around four and a half sessions left, a draw still seems like the likeliest conclusion of the match. However, hosts India will stand with a chance of producing a result if their batters can quickly surpass Bangladesh’s tally and earn a lead.
 
Mominul Haque brought up a splendid century but the morning session belonged to India as Bangladesh lost three wickets in the session to go into Lunch on 205-6 on Day 4 of the second Test at the Green Park Stadium today.
Mominul is unbeaten on 102 alongside Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who is batting on six, as the visitors are down to their last recognised batting pair. 
A total of 31 overs were bowled in the extended morning session, where Bangladesh added 98 runs after resuming the day’s play on 107-3.
Shakib Al Hasan was the third batter to fall in the session, getting caught brilliantly by Mohammad Siraj at mid-off. In the delivery before his dismissal, Shakib charged down the wicket against Ravichandran Ashwin and hit him over the in-field for a boundary. He tried to do the same in the following ball but this time mistimed the shot and was caught one-handed by Siraj.
Before Shakib, Liton Das had also paid the price after charging down the wicket, getting caught by Rohit Sharma for 13 off the bowling of Siraj. 
Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim (11) was the first batter to depart, leaving a Jasprit Bumrah delivery that crashed onto his stumps.
Mominul, who resumed the day’s play on 40, remained impervious to the wickets falling at the other end, looked solid in defence and was quick to pounce on scoring opportunities.
He did survive one close call in the penultimate over of the session when he was on 95 as he edged a ball off Siraj wide of Virat Kohli at first slip, who jumped to his left and got his hand to it but couldn’t hold on. 
Mominul swept Ashwin for a boundary in the following over to complete his 13th Test century. 
Earlier, Bangladesh resumed their first innings on 107-3 in 35 overs after rain and wet outfield allowed no play on the second and third day.
 
Bangladesh lost their second wicket of the day as Liton Das departed courtesy of a brilliant one-handed catch from Rohit Sharma as the visitors got reduced to 148-5 in the morning session on the fourth day in the second Test against India at the Green Park Stadium today.
Liton charged down the wicket against pacer Mohammad Siraj and tried to smash the ball over the in-field. But Rohit, who was at mid-wicket, got his right hand up in a flash and the ball went straight into his hand.
Liton departed for 13 and his dismissal has brought Shakib Al Hasan to the middle, who joins a well-set Mominul Haque batting on 62.
 
Mushfiqur Rahim lost his off stump to Jasprit Bumrah soon after play finally resumed in Kanpur following two days of inaction due to rain and a wet outfield as Bangladesh got reduced to 112-4 in the morning session on the fourth day in the second Test against India at the Green Park Stadium today.
Mushfiqur, who was unbeaten on six since the opening day, left a Bumrah delivery which came in sharply and crashed into his off stump. The veteran batter departed for 11.
Mominul Haque, unbeaten on 40, has been joined by Liton Das.
